Digital Camera Performance Comparison for Low-cost Gel Documentation System

This paper presents a method to reduce the cost of the conventional gel documentation system by employing a much cheaper digital camera instead of the existing expensive one. To adapt the cheaper camera, a computer remote control function which is necessary to the gel document system was added. The gel imaging performance of the camera was qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed in comparison with the existing digital camera. The band intensities of the gel images from both cameras were investigated for the quantitative imaging performance. The experimental results presented that the low-end compact digital camera could deliver a similar performance despite of the much lower cost.
